Apple Tree (May 6)

It's a sleepy, cool Sunday morning in the islands. Adding a video (and link) to this list from ZAGG. It's more of a promotional than anything objective, but it's worth a watch if you are long ZAGG. I didn't expect to be long after earnings, but the fundamentalist in me is winning the internal debate. It's the price action that's bizarro, and how that affects weak longs (me included) is a big issue.

Head games

I like ZAGG. The stock that is. I know nothing about its products. Same with Skullcandy (SKUL), which makes those outrageous earphone headset things. SKUL reports earnings tomorrow. The stock is up significantly in the past week, but has flattened out a bit going into tomorrow. Should be real interesting to see tomorrow's price action pre-earnings.

Is it a better play than ZAGG? One investor thinks ZAGG may be the perfect (growth) stock. Skullcandy just has more interesting advertising, don't you think?

Note on SKUL: Float is just 8.33M, 42.5% held by institutions and short pct is 131% (as of Apr 13). Incredible and hard to believe. It's run from 12 to 17 since late January. Pulled back to just above 15 recently, up 2.9% to 16.12 today. No idea where it goes after (or before) earnings tomorrow.

Ain't it true?

What I had to do was to find stocks that would be hoisted up because they stirred people's imagination for the future. ... I was not interested in the company's individual products, whether it was metals for rockets, solid fuel, or advanced electronic equipment. In fact, I did not want to know what they made—that information might only inhibit me. I did not care what the company's products were, any more than I was influenced by the fact that the board chairman had a beautiful wife. But I did want to know whether the company belonged to a new vigorous infant industry and whether it be haved in the market according to my requirements.

This, of course, was directly against the advice of many financial writers with conservative backgrounds who have been pounding into investors for generations that they must study company reports and balance sheets, find out all they can about a stock's background, in order to make a wise investment. I decided that was not for me. All a company report and balance sheet can tell you is the past and the present. They cannot tell the future. And it was for this I had to project my plans.
