Brew Review: Newcastle Brown Ale

Newcastle Brown Ale (Dunston, England)
Appearance (0 to 4 stars): 3.5. Looks like maple syrup and caramel.
Aroma: 3. Not too strong, but sweet enough.
Flavor: 3.5. Nice, not distinct, but not overpowreing. Sweet like all brown ales.
Texture: 3. Lightly carbonated. Settles down a lot after a few minutes, loses its fizz, which is good or bad depending on your taste. I don't mind a minimum of fizz.
Drinkability: 3.5. Not overly heavy, but rich nonetheless.
Overall score: 16.5.

Cost: $3, 1 pint, 2.4 oz.
On the label: "The One and Only". On the back, "It's well known that Newcastle Brown Ale is full of flavor and remarkably smooth. What's well less known is that Newcastle Brown Ale's trademark blue star has adorned the label of this dark English beer since 1927. The points represented the five founding breweries of Newcastle, the first place in Britain to brew beer commercially. By pouring all their brewing skills into one bottle, they guaranteed the star quality of this great tasting beer."

Also: "Brewed by Newcastle Federation Breweries, Ltd., Dunston, England, imported by Scottish and Newcastle Importers Co., San Rafael, Ca."
